Position Overview

We're seeking a data science and AI advisor to provide strategic oversight in algorithm development, AI/ML model validation, and data-driven product innovation. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape AI and machine learning strategy for clinical decision support, patient engagement, and predictive workflows in maternal mental and behavioral health.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in healthcare AI, understands regulatory and ethical considerations, and can translate complex data science concepts into actionable product strategy for both clinical and business applications.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory (Priority Areas)

  • Validate algorithms for screening scores, risk stratification models, and clinical decision support systems
  • Provide strategic guidance on AI/ML model development for predictive analytics in perinatal mental health
  • Advise on data infrastructure and analytics strategy to support predictive product development
  • Evaluate AI applications for both clinical workflows and patient engagement solutions
  • Guide product strategy for metrics, data science capabilities and emerging AI technologies
  • Assess technical feasibility and ROI of proposed AI/ML features

AI Ethics & Regulatory/Guidance

  • Provide independent model auditing standards for healthcare AI applications
  • Advise on ethical AI considerations including bias detection, fairness, and transparency
  • Guide approach to healthcare AI regulation landscape (FDA, CMS, state regulations)
  • Recommend best practices for responsible AI in sensitive clinical contexts (risk assessment, maternal health)

Product & Business Applications

  • Translate data science insights into product requirements for clinical and patient-facing solutions
  • Identify opportunities where AI/ML can address current critical or business needs
  • Advise on data privacy and security considerations in healthcare AI
  • Guide team on emerging AI technologies relevant to digital behavioral health (NLP, LLMs, predictive modeling)

Engagement Structure

  • 2-4 validation sessions over 3-6 months as AI/ML features are developed
  • Async product review (2 hours per session) + live strategy meeting (1-2 hours per session)
  • Deliver feedback on structural/technical and strategic assessment
  • Participation in product strategy discussions with founders and technical team
  • Potential for long-term fractional advisory or executive role to be defined after initial project

Ideal Candidate Background

Technical Experience (one or more)

  • Data scientist or ML engineer with healthcare AI experience
  • AI/ML product manager or technical lead with clinical applications background
  • Healthcare informatics researcher with focus on predictive modeling or NLP
  • Applied AI researcher with experience in digital health or behavioral health technologies

Valued Expertise

  • Algorithm development and validation for clinical decision support systems
  • AI/ML model development for healthcare predictive analytics
  • Experience with healthcare-specific AI considerations (bias auditing, fairness, interpretability)
  • NLP applications in clinical documentation or patient interaction
  • A/B testing and causal engineering for behavioral health applications
  • Data privacy, security, and compliance in healthcare AI (HIPAA, de-identification)
  • Understanding of FDA digital health guidance and AI/ML regulatory landscape
  • Product strategy experience in translating technical capabilities into user-facing features
  • Knowledge of maternal health, perinatal mental health, or mental health applications

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, or related field OR equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years experience applying AI/ML in healthcare, digital health, or clinical settings
  • Demonstrated experience in algorithm validation, model development, or healthcare AI strategy
  • Understanding of healthcare data standards, interoperability, and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with ethical AI frameworks and bias mitigation strategies
  • Experience in early-stage digital health companies or familiarity with product design and development processes
  • Fluency with virtual collaboration tools and modern digital workflows (Zoom, Google Workspace, GitHub, Jupyter, PyTorch/TF environments)

Time Commitment

  • Total: 12-20 hours over 3-6 months
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate primary work commitments, including reasonable availability for evening and weekend sessions
  • 2-4 validation cycles as AI/ML features are developed
  • 0.5-2 hours per validation session (async review + live meeting + written feedback)
  • Virtual meetings, no travel required

Compensation

Project-based compensation commensurate with experience:

  • Compensation range: $1,200-$3,600 for full engagement based on the estimated hours listed above
  • Final compensation will be determined by hourly rate adjusted for expertise, credentials, and advisory scope
  • Competitive rates commensurate with professional experience and specialized knowledge
  • Strong preference for advisors interested in ongoing fractional advisory relationship and special projects
